Getting Old

My birthday.
Yesterday was my birthday. I'm getting old. 37. My kids gave me specially made cards and my wife gave me 3 pieces of clothing for hiking - high quality staff ... I was very happy to get those. I also slept late and got breakfast to bed. And Larry the same afternoon gave me his tent. I wanted to buy it from him so it was a nice surprise ... Come to think about it, I have the whole gear for hiking except water filter ... (As an addition he threw a big sign "Support our Troops, End the War" which if I put in my ground, I probably shock the neighbors again; one of them works in the National Guard)

I spent the day working in the garden, but slowly, just for pleasure and with many breaks. This is one of my favorite activities. The kids sometimes "help" me ... and I usually spend around 15 minutes cleaning after them ...

I received cards and gifts from all my family. Thank you all.
Best gift came in the evening. Barbara and Larry kept the kids (there was neighborhood party) and Juli and I went to a house concert.

Not only that the music ended up great but we were excited for many other reasons:
- We love cultural character parties
- Ride to and the house itself was great. The ride was along a scenic country route and the house was very European in character
- I and Juli met many Polish people, mostly older generation - old immigration - all well educated and very nice. We were glad to be invited there by our friends
- We were in the house of famous painter (due to privacy, I will not quote his name) who was very nice and down to earth

Overall, the music was the last icing on the cake ... it was really interesting.
Here are two links to the musician's web sites.

FYI, the sign is up for a few weeks. My neighbor from National Guard, who I worried about the most, was actually very nice to me when he saw me. He was gone for weeks. I asked him why he was gone. He said he works on preparing for troops arrival, 600 of them or something like that. I said, "That's good news" He replied, "You are so right, it is."

(I didn't push any controversial things with him, never do. He lives in different world, and one has to respect the troops ... even if (I believe) they have been misled)
He was never too 'institutionalized' ... was retired really and only the whole war on terror forced him back to service.
