Unions in Poland did not exist as they were considered illegal. The fragment of the movie below - Strike (Netflix link to the movie ) shows strike and manifestation that ended up with Polish soldiers killing Polish workers. It never cease to amaze me that when the question is about the rights of the unions abroad, say in Poland "Solidarnosc" or nonexistent unions in China, then people cry about discrimination and violation of workers (human) rights In USA, however, it is OK to bash the right of workers to organize so they can have their voices hear.
Please do not do that in my presence ... You can criticize but be balanced in your criticism. Please.
I try to be open minded and tolerant but I have my limits. My country man died during strikes, Ronald Regan blessed their struggle ... (irony really because he fired ALL airport controllers who strike during his administration ... go figure!) so ...
"Enjoying the weekend? Unemployment benefits? Thank the unions for it."
You think Capitalism won over Communism because of Regan? Well, it was not Regan who died on that street from the bullets, it was not you or your friend shopping like crazy to keep the economy going and outspend the communism.
Why do you think Berlin wall collapsed? By itself? Someone had to risk their lives to fight for the rights of the workers. With the middle class in America diminishing, perhaps it is time to reconsider the value the unions bring in our discussion of the life we as a society want to have and live?
